Changemaker Academy

YWCA Hartford Region’s Community Engagement and Impact Department has developed a first-of-its kind, experience for Community members. Changemaker Academy looks to galvanize community members to empower themselves to become leaders in their community, by directly engaging in the legislative process.

Through the Changemaker Academy, we work with the community at large to educate, raise awareness and inspire people to act on issues that impact their lives, the foundation for all we do.

The Changemaker Academy offers tailored, interactive workshops designed to meet participants where they are, empowering them to actively engage in the legislative process. With content specifically crafted for students, parent groups and community-based organizations, the academy provides valuable insights into understanding legislative processes, identifying key representatives and recognizing the power of community influence.

The Changemaker Academy engages the community at all levels to confront issues that impact their lives, empowers them to make change, raise their voice and become influential leaders.

Our Changemaker Academy looks to engage community members at all levels: Middle/High School Students, College Students and Adults within the Community. Changemaker Academy consist of 8 modules that combine classroom learning and hands on activities, some of the themes include:

  • Grass Roots Organizing
  • Legislative Advocacy
  • Media Campaigning
