Advocacy Academy

YWCA Hartford Region’s Community Engagement and Advocacy program has developed a first-of-its kind, experience for teen girls (13-18), women and those who identify as women in the Hartford Region. The Advocacy Academy works in partnership with our Young Women’s Leadership Corps (YWLC) program to empower and change the trajectory of women’s and girls’ lives.

Through the Advocacy Academy, we work with women, young girls and the community at large to educate, raise awareness and inspire people to act on issues that impact their lives, with a focus on racial justice and gender equity; the foundation for all we do.

The Advocacy Academy engages the community at all levels to confront issues impacting their lives, empowers them to make change, raise their voice, and become influential leaders. Through the Academy, we currently offer programs during YWLC’s Summer Institute and Saturday Academy to educate and empower.

During the Academy, six essential advocacy strategies will be explored, including:

  • Grass Roots Organizing
  • Research and Data Collection
  • Legislative Advocacy
  • Media Campaigning
  • Fundraising
  • Running for Office
