Advocacy Academy

YWCA Hartford Region’s Community Engagement and Advocacy Department has developed a first-of-its kind, experience for Community members. Advocacy Academy looks to galvanize community members to empower themselves to become leaders in their community, by directly engaging in social justice work.

Through the Advocacy Academy, we work with women, young girls and the community at large to educate, raise awareness and inspire people to act on issues that impact their lives, with a focus on racial justice and gender equity; the foundation for all we do. Advocacy Academy engages the community at all levels to confront issues impacting their lives, empowers them to make change, raise their voice and become influential leaders.

The Advocacy Academy engages the community at all levels to confront issues impacting their lives, empowers them to make change, raise their voice and become influential leaders.

Our Advocacy Academy looks to engage community members at all levels: Middle/High School Students, College Students and Adults within the Community.  Advocacy Academy consist of 8 modules that combine classroom learning and hands on activities, some of the themes include:

  • Grass Roots Organizing
  • Legislative Advocacy
  • Media Campaigning
