YWCA Hartford Region mourns the loss of Steven Jones and holds his family and loved ones in our hearts during this deeply painful time.
On February 27, 2026, Steven Jones lost his life during a mental health crisis response. His death has been ruled a homicide. That word carries a lot of weight — and so does the grief that follows. The pain his family is carrying, and the pain our community is feeling, is real and profound.
We believe that every person in crisis deserves a compassionate, trained response — one that prioritizes life. We also believe that accountability and healing must go hand in hand.
YWCA Hartford Region is committed to advocating for expanded mental and emotional health resources, more community policing education, and systems that protect the dignity of every person in Hartford and the surrounding communities.
